The country’s medical physicians and other healthcare professionals will now be able to retire at age 65 instead of 60, as allowed by President Bola Tinubu.
This was revealed in a statement released on Wednesday by Dr. Mannir Bature, the National Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
“The allocation and disbursement of funds required to settle their outstanding arrears has also been approved by President Tinubu,” he added.
Bature stated that the responsibility of formally presenting the approval to the Council on Establishment through the Office of the Head of Service for final confirmation has been placed on Prof. Muhammad Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare.
He stated that Pate informed key players in the health sector and NMA President Prof. Bala Audu of the policy change at a significant meeting.
According to him, the coordinating minister has confirmed that the unpaid invoices resulting from the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) modifications are set to be paid.
President Tinubu has approved the necessary changes to be made to the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) as a result of the new minimum wage’s implementation, according to the minister’s statement, which Mr. Bature cited.

“The required funds have been obtained, and beneficiary disbursement will soon begin,” he stated.
Doctors and other healthcare professionals are receiving much-needed relaxation as a result of the advanced stage of the repair process.
“This will ensure better financial remuneration and sustainability for healthcare services nationwide, especially benefiting members of the Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners and Nurses (ANPMPN).”
