Keyamo Dismisses Obidient Movement, Boasts of APC’s 2027 Prospects

According to Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, youth-led movements like Peter Obi’s 2023 Obidient movement are not a threat to President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection because they cannot take the place of the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) strong political structures.
Keyamo made the following claim in an interview with Channels Television on Monday regarding the impact of mass movements: “The Labour Party was built around him (Peter Obi) and the Obidient movement.” Go back in time; even heroes like Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe were unable to overcome the difficulties of Nigerian elections in the absence of organizations.
He also asked, “Under what platform?” in response to rumors that Obi’s Obidient movement might jeopardize Tinubu’s chances of winning reelection. He emphasized that the APC’s established structures held up well in the 2023 elections, despite the difficulties caused by the fuel shortage and the naira redesign policy.
“Have you watched the results of the 2023 elections? Petroleum scarcity and the naira redesign strategy worked against our party, but the APC’s infrastructure remained strong. “It was like a house built on solid rock,” Keyamo continued, reaffirming his faith in the APC’s unwavering power.

Keyamo reportedly also cited President Tinubu’s robust support in northern Nigeria, which he feels will be important in the next election.

“The North has more friends than the South-West,” he stated, suggesting that this dynamic will be crucial to ensuring the President’s reelection.

Relatedly, Keyamo said that he had given Sheriff Oborevwori, the governor of Delta State, leadership of the party in the state in an effort to fortify it further after the governor had defected to the APC.

According to Keyamo, “as long as we are strengthening APC further for the re-election of Mr. President, it does not matter if I have to make sacrifices like yesterday when we surrendered (party leadership in Delta).”
