UK Court Sentences Nigerian Health Worker for Kissing Care Home Patient

For sexually abusing a patient in his care at York medical, a Nigerian medical employee named Adewale Kudabo was given a one-year prison sentence by a UK court.
On the first day of his April trial, Kudabo entered a guilty plea to two charges of sexual assault and was found guilty on June 10.
As a medical practitioner, Kudabo “abused the trust” that was placed in him, according to Judge Alex Menary.
“You betrayed that trust,” Menary informed Kudabo in court, pointing out that the victim had trusted him when he was at his most vulnerable.
As stated by the prosecution, Kudabo was tasked with bathing a patient who was in excruciating discomfort. After helping her, he allegedly planted a kiss on her lips, which the victim, in spite of her condition, attempted to avoid.

The victim was left feeling quite uneasy and bewildered, according to prosecutor Henry Fernandez.
According to reports, Kudabo went up to the same patient a few days later, gave her another “bed bath,” and tried to kiss her once more.
According to the court, the victim had severe emotional anguish as a result of the incident, including anxiety and flashbacks.
His attorney, Jerry Sodipe, said Kudabo, who had no past convictions, was sorry.
“He has raised his hands to acknowledge his guilt, indicating that he should not have done that,” Sodipe informed the court.
Kudabo and his family had relocated from Nigeria to the UK for work, but Sodipe added that he has since lost his job as a result of the incident.
The York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which is in charge of York Hospital, acknowledged in a statement that Kudabo resigned from his job soon after the attack and offered the victim their “sincere apologies.”
Judge Menary decided that Kudabo cannot be released until he has completed half of his 12-month term.
