Virgil van Dijk, the captain of Liverpool, has voiced his displeasure over an Everton player’s attempt to incite Reds supporters during Wednesday night’s Merseyside derby on February 12.
Mohamed Salah’s goal in the 76th minute of the Merseyside derby appeared to put Liverpool ahead for win. But James Tarkowski’s spectacular equalizer late in injury time lifted Everton supporters’ spirits.
Abdoulaye Doucoure of Everton celebrated in front of the visiting Liverpool fans after the goal, which resulted in a 2-2 tie for Everton. This caused a heated situation.
Take note that after the heated exchange, Doucoure and Curtis Jones were sent off.
Van Dijk told TNT Sport, “We appreciate their celebrations, as they have every right to celebrate a goal like that,” after the incident. But Curtis thought Doucoure’s behavior was improper and provocative.
