No More Nightclubs in Katsina, Says Hisbah

The Katsina State chapter of Sharia Police, Hisbah, has issued a ban on all nightclub activities in the state, citing the need to uphold moral standards and Islamic precepts.
Aminu Usman, also known as Abu Ammar, the Hisbah Commander-General, made the announcement in a statement issued in Katsina on Wednesday.
In order to curb immoral actions, protect social values, and address security concerns in the state, he stressed, nightclub owners must close their establishments.
The board forewarned that those who violated the rules would suffer severe consequences. To guarantee complete adherence to the directive, security agencies have been directed.
“We are dedicated to creating a society that upholds moral principles and guaranteeing peace and security in Katsina State,” Usman stated.
In order to guarantee the successful execution of the directive, he noted, the Board has conferred with relevant security authorities, including the State’s Commissioner for Internal Security.
“This action aligns with Hisbah’s broader efforts to ensure that citizens continue to live their lives in conformity with moral and religious values,” Usman said.
Just three months ago, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, the governor of Sokoto State, issued a warning to the state’s Hisbah Corps soldiers about taking advantage of defenseless civilians.
Governor Aliyu emphasized to the Hisbah Corps members the importance of adhering to the regulations that govern their operations and making sure they don’t violate any current laws in the country.
In order to curb social deterioration and vices in the state, Aliyu reportedly made this statement during the inauguration of the Sokoto State Hisbah Corps, which had been reestablished.
He pledged that the Hisbah’s operations would be closely watched to guarantee that the rules governing its creation are strictly followed.
In order to protect the lives and property of the people in the state, the Hisbah board is meant to support the traditional security services rather than take their place.

Following an arrest, the Hisbah board can turn defendants over to the police for prosecution in a Shari’a court. The board is legally authorized to make arrests.
“We will keep an eye on the corps’ operations to make sure that the laws governing its formation are strictly followed,” Governor Aliyu declared.
