JUST IN: Fire Ravages LagFerry Boat in Lagos, Leaving Many Injured

When the LagFerry ship, Igbega Eko, suddenly exploded and caught fire on its way to Victoria Island, several of the passengers reportedly suffered injuries and rushed to safety.
On Thursday morning, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) acknowledged the fire incident and said that their staff was on site to keep things from getting worse.
There was a thunderous explosion, and then the boat was quickly consumed by flames. According to an NIWA official who spoke to Tribune Online on Thursday morning, investigations are still ongoing to determine the precise cause of the fire.

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) reportedly confirmed the occurrence as well, suggesting that the cause of the fire is still being looked into.

Four passengers have minor injuries and are being treated, according to a statement issued by LASWA’s Public Affairs Unit on Thursday morning.
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) reported a fire incident involving the LAGFERRY vessel, “Igbega Eko,” which was en route to Victoria Island, at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu at around 6:45 AM today, according to the LASWA statement.

“LASWA’s emergency response team quickly mobilized to the scene after receiving the distress call, coordinating closely with LAGFERRY, boat operators, other first responders, and others to effectively manage the situation.” Although four passengers sustained minor injuries and are presently undergoing medical treatment, we are happy to announce that all passengers and crew were safely evacuated.
