Breaking: Abure Asserts ‘No Vacuum in Labour Party Leadership’

Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), vehemently denied allegations that there was a leadership void in the party on Monday, further exacerbating the party’s leadership crisis.
Abure said that any such claim was a “nullity” during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting that was taking place at the party’s National Secretariat in Utako, Abuja.
“The Labour Party’s leadership is not in a void. Rejecting assertions from opposing factions within the party, Abure said, “The Supreme Court ruling did not state that the tenure of the current National Working Committee (NWC) under my leadership has expired.”
The National Caretaker Committee, as he put it, is “an illegal body unknown to any law guiding the Labour Party.”
Abure went on, “The so-called caretaker committee is an illegal entity because what transpired in Umuahia, Abia State, was not a NEC meeting. The alleged caretaker committee is nothing more than an intrusive outsider out to ruin our party.
The Obi/Otti faction of the Labour Party has set its own NEC meeting for Wednesday, April 9th, in Abuja, while Abure has maintained his stance.
The meeting will be followed by a Town Hall Engagement with important stakeholders at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, according to a statement released by Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR).

The meeting was a significant follow-up to the Supreme Court decision that essentially put an end to Abure’s term, according to POMR spokesperson Ibrahim Umar.
The statement stressed that members of the House of Representatives, current and former senators, and the vice presidential candidate for the 2023 election would all be represented at the meeting.
Members of the National Caretaker Committee, former candidates for governor, and representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) Political Commission are among the people scheduled to attend the meeting, according to the POMR’s statement.
