Obasa’s Loyalists Push for Meranda’s Removal as Lagos Speaker

There are rumors that the camp of Mudashiru Obasa, the troubled former speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, is planning to unseat Mojisola Meranda, the current speaker.
Remember that there have been numerous attempts to reinstate embattled Obasa following a string of unsuccessful attempts to remove Meranda since her emergence on January 13, 2025.
According to insiders who spoke to Vanguard over the weekend, there are signs that Meranda might be fired at any time.

The insider claims that the most recent scheme is to elect a member from the West, ideally from Ikeja, after the Ifako-Ijaiye candidate turned down the offer and other candidates reaffirmed their unwavering allegiance to Meranda.
According to reports, APC leaders who have a soft spot for Obasa are planning to ensure that a proxy speaker from the Ikeja constituency emerges. A few weeks later, they would reportedly leave their positions to make room for Obasa, who is then anticipated to step down and make space for a preferred candidate to take the speakership.

“Why isn’t anyone focusing on the role of Abuja in trying to reinstate him, even with all the infractions and behaving like the elected members must get clearance from Abuja, especially at this stage of our democracy?” said a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who spoke anonymously to the aforementioned publication, expressing support for Meranda and pointing out some of Obasa’s misconduct. The issue is being overflogged needlessly.

They even attempted setting up a proxy in an attempt to get him back in a few months.

“Someone deducting money from his coworkers’ and even junior employees’ allowances.” They act as though they gain from his bad behavior.
