Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s previous vice presidential candidate, has told President Bola Tinubu that his term in government is up and that he should not run for reelection in 2027.
Baba-Ahmed emphasized that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) should already be aware that they will lose the general elections in 2027 when he spoke on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Friday.
Baba-Ahmed emphasized that the president and the APC had clear indications that their prospects of winning in 2027 were limited, saying, “I expect Tinubu to throw in the towel if he is that smart politician that he turns out to be.”
Baba-Ahmed reportedly mocked Tinubu’s political approach by calling him a “super-smart politician” who orchestrated political maneuvers from 2007 till the contentious 2023 presidential race.
“He skipped 2007 and jokingly made Atiku (presidential) candidate, made Ribadu and somebody 2011 and Buhari in 2015, Buhari won, and then skipped 2019 and they stole 2023,” he said, mocking Tinubu’s political maneuvers. Everything is set up for him to lose in 2027 if he is that intelligent.
Due to growing public discontent, the LP leader predicted that Tinubu’s electorally successful tactics would backfire in the next elections.
Two potential contenders might unseat Tinubu in 2027, Baba-Ahmed said. Additionally, he asserted that “it has been proven that APC is a lie” and that Tinubu will not fulfill the promises he made to Nigerians during the campaign.

Baba-Ahmed emphasized that the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari failed to deliver on its commitments to the Nigerian people, especially in the areas of security, development, and anti-corruption initiatives. “Buhari did not develop Nigeria, Buhari did not provide security, and Buhari did not fight corruption,” he added, further criticizing Tinubu’s chances. Tinubu will never do this either.
Nigerians will band together to vote out incompetent leaders.
The 2023 vice presidential candidate for the Labour Party said he was confident Nigerians would band together to vote out what he called “bad leadership,” and he projected that the APC will lose the 2027 election.
Baba-Ahmed predicted that the political climate of the nation will change as people banded together to exercise democracy and hold elected officials responsible.
“I think the APC will lose this election. Baba-Ahmed stated, “I see Nigerians coming together in some way, listening to what someone like me is saying that democracy is not for you if you cannot practice this. Then, Nigerians will decide to come out and practice democracy for the first time, and bad leadership will start to have no hiding place in Nigeria.”
He declared in closing that Nigerian democracy would undergo a sea change in 2027 when voters rebelled against incompetent leadership.
