Customs Seize Guns, Cartridges, Indian Hemp, and More in Ogun

Three single barrel long guns, 100 pieces of cartridges, 150 sacks of India hemp, and 7,242 bags of rice were all intercepted at various places throughout the state, according to the Nigeria Customs Service’s Ogun Area Command, or NCS, on Tuesday.
This was revealed by Mohammed Shuaibu, the Customs Area Controller, at a news conference at the command’s headquarters in Idiroko for the first quarter of 2025.
20 bags of imported sugar, 22 vehicles used to transport the contraband, four used vehicles, 10 cartons of Amoxicillin capsules, 534 booklet-sized cannabis sativa, 2 cowrie sacks, 843 pieces of used pneumatic tires, and 535 kegs of 25-liter PMS are among the other seizures, according to Shuaibu.
He mentioned that the state’s Abeokuta axis, Ilaro, and Ipokia/Idiroko areas were where they were intercepted, and that their total duty paid value (DPV) was N314 million.
The Comptroller clarified that the previous three months had been devoted to cooperating, merging, coordinating, and communicating with significant national and international stakeholders in order to guarantee seamless and lawful trade while enforcing government fiscal policies against smuggling.

161 seizures were made as a result of the Command’s aggressive, intelligence-based anti-smuggling operations, according to Shuaibu. These include: 3 long rifles with a single barrel; 4 packets of 25 cartridges (100 pieces of cartridges); 150 sacks of different-sized Indian hemp; 10 cartons of Amoxicillin capsules; and 7 242 bags of foreign parboiled rice (we confiscated 900 bags of rice yesterday alone).
Four used cars, 20 bags of imported sugar, 20 bags of flour powder, 50 bags of POP cement, 22 vehicles (means of transportation), 534 booklet-sized cannabis sativa, 239 bread-sized cannabis sativa, 2,926 coconut-sized cannabis sativa, 2 sacks of cowries, 12 cartons of Ghana soap, 843 pieces of used pneumatic tires, and 535 kegs of PMS 25 liters each (13,375 liters) are included.
“The total duty paid value (DPV) for all of the aforementioned seizures was N 314, 057,716 (three hundred and fourteen million five hundred seven thousand seven hundred and sixteen naira).”
He stated that N43 million was made from the import taxes and the sale of the captured petroleum at auction, and that the NDLEA Commander in Abeokuta had received the confiscated Cannabis Sativa.
While reassuring the people that the command will always assist them in all facets of their commercial activity, Shuaibu advised them to stay away from any illegal commerce that would harm the economy and damage their reputation.
In the meantime, he urged patriotic and well-meaning Nigerians to assist the service by giving helpful information against economic sabotage for the benefit of the country’s progress.
