Police Officer Sentenced to Prison After Allegedly Raping 17-Year-Old Girl In Lagos

Due to allegations of rape, Owolabi Akinlolu, a Nigeria Police Force officer, has been placed under remand in jail.
A 17-year-old girl is accused of being sexually molested by the officer in his Lagos State office.
According to reports, Akinlolu, an officer assigned to the Ogudu Police Station in Lagos, had vowed to assist his victim in getting her phone back after “one chance” criminals had taken it.
According to reports, Akintolu offered to assist in tracking down the phone after overhearing the young girl telling her mother about her phone theft experience at her business.
“On June 29, Officer Owolabi called my mother on her phone and told her that he had arrested the person with my phone and that I should go to his police station,” the victim told reporters about her ordeal. When I arrived, I was informed that the guy apprehended wasn’t the one who had my phone and that they had made a tracking error.
“I was called into the officer’s office by his personal assistant, who also gave me directions.” He responded to my greeting as I walked inside his office, got up to close the door, and pocketed the key. “Sir, why did you lock the door?” I yelled.
I yelled at him as he began to remove my clothes, and he then pulled out a revolver, cocked it, and threatened to shoot me if I yelled. He then started to harass me, and when I resisted, he raped me and struck me on the back of my head with the gun.
The teenager said, “I saw his phone ringing and it was my mother. However, he told me that since I didn’t have a phone with me, I should tell her that I didn’t make it to his office and that going forward, I should be reporting at his office by 12 pm every day during school break or on my way home from school. He had been watching me for two years and now I just fell into his trap.”
Aramide Olupona, the victim’s mother, said in July 2024 that the police were attempting to hide the accusation.
“My daughter was raped, but what about the suspect’s wife and other family members who have come to my shop to beg me that he would soon retire? She asked, “Is it because I’m a poor woman?”
