Eedris Abdulkareem: I Didn’t Attack Seyi Tinubu, I Only Responded in My Song

Eedris Abdulkareem, a Nigerian rapper and performer, has stated that his new song, “Tell your papa,” is not an attack on Seyi Tinubu.

He claimed that he just responded to the president’s son’s assertion that Bola Tinubu, his father, is the greatest president Nigeria has ever had.

This was spoken by Abdulkareem during Sunday’s episode of “Rubbin’ Minds” on Channels Television.

According to reports, the younger Tinubu made the declaration in March 2025 in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.

The rapper claims that his new song, “Tell Your Papa,” is a request for the president’s son to urge his father to address Nigeria’s security and economic issues rather than an assault on Seyi.

“Young people in Nigeria are only requesting the necessities—not palliatives—such as electricity, security, a supportive economic climate, and the creation of jobs.

Why should I personally attack Seyi Tinubu, then? I wouldn’t have recorded such a song if Seyi Tinubu hadn’t mentioned it. I’m responding to the video he created. I wouldn’t have spoken if he had remained silent. “Seyi Tinubu inspired me to record that song,” he remarked.

Remember how Abdulkareem’s new song was instantly labeled inappropriate by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and prohibited from radio and television?

The prohibition has drawn criticism from a number of Nigerians, including Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka.

Soyinka characterized the development as a danger to the freedom to free speech and a return to censorship.

During the TV show, Eedris Abdulkareem bemoaned the fact that his song “Nigeria jagajaga,” which he had previously released 24 years ago, is still relevant because Nigeria has not seen the required progress.
