Police Recover Body of Kidnapped Soldier Killed Over Delayed ₦20 Million Ransom

The body of Abdulfatai Odutola, a Nigerian Army non-commissioned officer who was killed due to a ransom payment delay, has been retrieved by the Plateau State Police command.
Odutola, a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO), was reportedly kidnapped on February 15, 2025, while traveling to Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, via the Abuja-Jos route.
According to a military internal memo that SaharaReporters was able to get, the kidnappers had sought ₦20 million in ransom to free him.

The memo said, “Please be advised that MWO Abdulfatai Odutola (CC 23 BDE Yola) was abducted yesterday while traveling back to Yola along Abuja-Jos Road. I am receiving this information from this soldier whisky. On Friday, February 14, 2025, he departed Ilorin and spent the night in Abuja. Before the event occurred, he had been moving around Abuja yesterday.
For his release, they are currently requesting N20,000,000. The soldier should receive assistance from the proper authorities.

But according to another internal memo, the senior staff member’s body and vehicle were found in Jos Forest.

“We have received information from Yola that the aforesaid MWO Abdulfatai Odutola was killed by his captors and that his body was found by police in Jos Forest after the deadline for paying the 20 million naira ransom sought by his kidnappers had passed. His automobile was also found. Please do something.
