Labour Party Crisis: I’m the Legitimate Successor to Abure – Apapa

Lamidi Apapa, the Labour Party’s (LP) divisive National Chairman, has stated that he ought to succeed Julius Abure.
According to reports, Apapa stated that since the Supreme Court overturned the Appeal Court’s ruling confirming him as national chairman, he should succeed Abure as the LP’s eldest Deputy National Chairman.
Apapa emphasized in an interview with Arise News on Thursday that he should be in charge of the party as he is Abure’s closest relative.
“The Deputy Chairman of the party assumes leadership if the National Chairman of the party is incapable of carrying out his duties as chairman for whatever reason. It operates automatically. The Constitution gives me the right to do so, thus I don’t need permission from anyone. A deputy national chairman is responsible for that. I regret to inform you that I am the oldest Deputy National Chairmen. Of them, I’m the next person to Abure on the hierarchy list.
I’m the next officer on the list, so I’m the closest person to Abure in terms of rank and everything else. Therefore, I am the only one who can take over if he has any issues that justify him stepping aside. Here, it’s stated quite clearly,” he remarked.

He claimed that he would not run for office and that his goal was to save the party. He stated that since the late former chairman, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, did not complete his tenure before passing away, the North ought to provide the party’s next chairman.
“I’m not sure if you saw a copy of my address when I made the declaration. I stated one of my plans that I believe should give them the impression that I am prepared to save the party, even though I am not yet ready to run for national government office. And I only plan to be here for six months. Thirdly, I plan to zone the party’s national chairman to the north. because Alhaji Abdulsalam, the deceased, was from the north and spent a few months there before passing away. They should be able to generate the next chairman as a result. And I’ve promised this from the beginning,” he continued.
