Hakeem Baba-Ahmed: I Was Appointed Tinubu’s Adviser But Did Nothing

Former President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Political Matters Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has stated that he was unable to make a significant contribution in that role despite having a lot to offer in the shape of political advice, which was the reason for his appointment.
In April 2025, Baba-Ahmed resigned from his job as Special Adviser on Political Matters, which he had been appointed to in 2023 under Vice President Kashim Shettima’s administration.
Baba-Ahmed stated on Thursday, May 1, 2025, on Channels Television’s Politics Today that he resigned because the Tinubu administration lacks the will to improve Nigeria.

Baba-Ahmed said he could not work with a government that no longer has the people’s will to effect change, especially when it comes to tackling the North’s poverty and insecurity, which he said Tinubu had made worse.
He claims he turned down Tinubu’s request for a private meeting because it would have included advice on not running for a second term in 2027 and other things he might not want to hear.
According to him, Tinubu need to think about endorsing a younger, more dynamic member of his own party to run for president in 2027 instead of running for reelection.
Baba-Ahmed insisted that he does not regret working with the President, but he would decline the option to return if it were put out again when asked if he would take it again.
“The direction the Tinubu government is taking—no,” he retorted. I had no work to do. As the Vice President, I was meant to advise the President on political concerns, but I didn’t do anything.
