BREAKING: Senate Begins Debate on ₦54 Trillion 2025 Budget

At a crucial stage in the development of the country’s economic policy, the 10th Senate, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has begun to consider the ₦54 trillion 2025 Appropriation Bill.
After a meeting behind closed doors, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele on Thursday proposed a resolution for the chamber to accept the Appropriations Committee report, which was later delivered by Committee Chairman Solomon Adeola.
As he presided over the plenary, Senator Barau Jibrin stressed the significance of early budget passage and urged members to accelerate their study without sacrificing thoroughness.

The proposed allocations will now be reviewed by the Senate clause by clause, with discussions anticipated on important areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, and security.
In a related development, it was announced that a national budget of ₦54.9 trillion for 2025 had been approved by Parliament.

After a report from the House Committee on Appropriations was presented and submitted, the budget was approved.

Statutory transfers are allotted ₦3.6 trillion, debt servicing at ₦14.3 trillion, recurring (non-debt) expenses at ₦13.6 trillion, and capital expenditures at ₦23.9 trillion.

The approved budget differs by about ₦7 billion from President Bola Tinubu’s original ₦49.7 trillion request that was presented to parliament in December 2024.
