“Think Beyond the Uniform – Army Chief Tells Officers Nigeria Needs Their Brains

To address Nigeria’s difficulties, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has urged strategic stakeholders and top military leaders to turn strategy into tangible actions.
The Nigerian Army Resource Center (NARC) Strategic Management and Policy Study Course 7/2024 pupils graduated on Friday, and Oluyede was said to have given the charge.
The Director-General of the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Center, Maj.-Gen. Gbemiga Adesina, spoke on behalf of Oluyede, who encouraged the 25 graduating officers to use their training for the advancement of the country.
According to the COAS, “this course is not just about theory; it is about using strategy, leadership, and innovation to make things happen, in your organizations—and for the nation.”
You have to be a force for change. Beyond this classroom, you have another mission: to advance Nigeria. Use what you’ve learned here to advance your organizations, yourself, and the well of our country and all people.
He praised how the training combined research, psychology, entrepreneurship, and policy, preparing officers to lead in a rapidly evolving security and governance landscape.
Retired Maj.-Gen. Garba Wahab, the NARC’s Director-General, talked about the program as a way to foster mutual understanding, cooperation, and trust amongst the security, defense, and civil organizations.
The training has steadily grown, and the current class is among the largest, he added, reflecting the trust of organizations like the NYSC, Defense Intelligence, and the Department of State Services.
Without an understanding of one another’s viewpoints, strengths, and shortcomings, collaboration is impossible. Wahab stated, “That opportunity is provided by this course.”
He exhorted people to use their networks and abilities to overcome obstacles facing the country.
Nobody possesses all of the knowledge. Others may perceive what you perceive as white as black; the goal is to share views and gain knowledge from one another,” Wahab continued.
Maj.-Gen Sunday Igbinomwanhia, the course president, thanked the Nigerian Army, NARC, and affiliated organizations for providing the chance to participate in the strategic training.
According to reports, after 11 months of rigorous coursework, the participants received a fellowship from the Nigerian Army Resource Center and a master’s degree from the Nigerian Defence Academy.
On Thursday, they were inducted prior to the formal commencement ceremony.
