Tinubu Could Lose Like Jonathan – Ndume’s Remark Sparks Backlash

Due to his recent remarks warning that President Bola Tinubu would be treated similarly to former President Goodluck Jonatha in the 2027 election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has threatened to prosecute former Senate Chief Whip Ali Ndume.
Speaking on Sunday on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Senator Ndume reportedly voiced his concern that if the President didn’t take note of Jonathan’s surprising defeat in 2015, an upset might await him at the next election.
The congressman claimed that only politicians are singing a different tune and that citizens seem disgruntled with the Tinubu administration despite the defections to the APC.

He claims that after originally attending the APC summit, where party members approved President Tinubu, he left the event right away because he disagreed with the plan to support Tinubu for a second term.
Recalling that former President Goodluck Jonathan lost his reelection bid to Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite receiving the support of 22 governors from his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the 2015 election, Ndume stated that party endorsement is not a guarantee for winning elections.

In response, Bala Ibrahim, the APC’s director of publicity, told Punch in an interview on Monday that the ruling party is accepting of other points of view as long as they are consistent with progressive social and political principles.

Ibrahim underlined that although the party accepts dissenting views, it also has policies in place for punishing members who act improperly.

“As you know, Senator Ndume is a senior and esteemed member of the APC,” he stated. He has previously voiced his opinions in public over the manner in which his party is running the nation, occasionally voicing disagreement or opposing viewpoints.

However, since the APC is a liberal-minded party, it does not oppose different viewpoints as long as they do not conflict with the party’s constitution.

It is a progressive party that accepts a wide range of viewpoints, provided that those viewpoints support progressive social and political reforms.

The party supports measures that advance equality and freedom while respecting the opinions of others.

However, they must be carried out in a way that does not violate the established standards of appropriate conduct. If they disagree, the party has censorship or punishment mechanisms that are outside of my authority as a director.
