Tinubu Orders Comprehensive Audit to Overhaul Civil Service

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a bold step to restructure Nigeria’s public sector by directing a thorough personnel audit and skills gap analysis throughout the Federal Civil Service. At the commencement of the 2025 International Civil Service Week in Abuja, the directive was released on Thursday.
Enhancing capacity, increasing efficiency, and positioning the civil service to better deliver public goods and assist national growth are the goals of the project.
President Tinubu said, “The only way we can ensure a high-performance culture is by putting the right people in the right positions.” “In order to increase capacity, I have authorized a comprehensive personnel audit and skills gap analysis throughout the Federal Civil Service.”
As “the engine room” of the country’s administrative and development endeavors, the president underlined that the civil service is the cornerstone of efficient governance.
He declared, “The unsung heroes of stability, innovation, and public trust are our civil servants.”
The audit is a component of a larger plan to promote the shift to digital governance and bring Nigeria’s civil service into line with global best practices. Tinubu emphasized the significance of precise and secure data, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to evidence-based policy.
“The new oil is data. It gains value when processed and shared properly, unlike oil,” he continued.
The president instructed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to release validated data in accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 in order to strengthen transparency and data protection.
In addition, President Tinubu commended the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 for its ongoing reforms and commended Dr. Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service, for her leadership in promoting innovation and digital transformation.

The changes represent a major step in creating a contemporary, flexible, and results-oriented public sector that can serve the requirements of the populace in the digital era.
