Tinubu Praises Governor Uba Sani, Honours Col. Umar with National Award During Kaduna Visit

As part of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dealt a severe blow to the rebels in Borno State. In Kwaltiri, which is part of the infamous Tumbuktu Triangle, a major hub for terrorist activity, NAF air assets executed a precision airstrike that neutralized dozens of insurgents and destroyed an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) factory and multiple terrorist gun trucks. This was a significant tactical success.
After actionable intelligence indicated a spike in terrorist activities in the region, the successful operation was carried out on June 18, 2025. The coordinated air offensive was prompted by surveillance missions that verified the existence of multiple armed vehicles and a functioning IED fabrication factory.
Throughout the mission, NAF planes hit a number of targets, carrying out precise attacks that seriously damaged the terrorists’ infrastructure. An official statement claims that the airstrike severely damaged the insurgents’ networks of supplies and command and control. The group’s ability to produce bombs was severely damaged by the destruction of the IED factory, which further reduced its offensive capabilities.

The NAF stated in its announcement that the successful strikes “sent shockwaves through their ranks, significantly degrading their morale and operational momentum, in addition to disrupting their command and control and logistics chains.”
The Nigerian military was commended by security experts for carrying out this mission successfully, calling it an important step in reducing terrorism in the country’s northeast. Since the Tumbuktu Triangle has long been a haven for terrorist organizations, eliminating it is a top priority in the current counter-insurgency effort.
The Nigerian Air Force’s dedication to bolstering regional stability and assisting with national security operations is demonstrated by its most recent offensive. The mission is a component of Operation Hadin Kai’s ongoing attempts to weaken terrorist capabilities and bring peace back to insurgent-affected communities.
