Tinubu to IBB: “I Wouldn’t Be in Politics Without You”

President Bola Tinubu has revealed how important Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, the former military leader, was to his political career.

President Tinubu remarked, “General Ibrahim Babangida, you inspire some of us; without you, people like me wouldn’t be in politics.”

He went on to say that IBB, as a visionary leader, encouraged young, energetic individuals like him to pursue careers in politics.

Thirty-two years after the historic annulment of Nigeria’s June 12 presidential election, Ibrahim Babangida, a former military president, revealed that the poll was canceled for “national interest.”

According to reports, IBB revealed the information in Abuja on Thursday, February 20, 2025, during the book launch for his autobiography, “A Journey in Service.”

He said that the decision to call off the election, which was generally accepted to have been won by businessman Chief Moshood Abiola as a Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate, was made in the interest of the nation and its survival.
