U.S. Consulate Launches 29th American Space in Nigeria, Strengthening People-to-People Connections

Alongside Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, acting U.S. Consul General JoEllen Gorg officially opened the 29th American Space in Nigeria, the Ogun Tech Hub Window on America, over the weekend.

Along with U.S. embassies and consulates, universities, libraries, and innovation hubs host more than 700 American Spaces in 140 locations worldwide.

Over 4,400 programs are organized by the American Spaces network in Nigeria each year, reaching 100,000 Nigerians. Nigeria has 29 American Spaces spread throughout 24 cities, more than any other African nation.

The Ogun State Government, the U.S. Consulate General, and GFA Technologies, a well-known tech firm that helps creative businesses, partnered to create this new facility, the second in Abeokuta.

Young Nigerians can develop their leadership skills, explore ideas, and hone their tech and entrepreneurial abilities in a dynamic, American-themed setting at the Ogun Tech Hub Window on America through participatory workshops and activities.

In addition, the center offers computers, high-speed internet, and a wealth of digital resources to aid in professional growth, research, and education.

Various educational advising programs also offer advice to visitors about studying in the United States.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which was attended by representatives of the local academic, economic, and artistic communities, Ogun State government officials, and alumni of U.S. government exchange programs,

According to Acting Consul General Gorg, the goal of Window on America is to strengthen the already close friendships between the United States and Nigeria while also strengthening their cultural and educational links.

“We are thrilled to open the Ogun Tech Hub Window on America in Abeokuta in collaboration with the Ogun State Government and GFA Technologies,” Acting Consul General Gorg stated. “All citizens of Ogun State and beyond benefit from this collaborative, technology-driven center that is committed to education, innovation, and partnership.”
