Unknown Gunmen Abduct Immigration Officer in Benue, Demand N20 Million Ransom

In Makurdi, Benue State, gunmen are said to have kidnapped Simon Agbo, an officer with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS).
According to family sources, the event happened on Sunday at approximately 7:5 p.m. while Agbo and two neighbors were outside his house.
In order to scare away the locals, the gunmen fired multiple shots into the air before capturing the cop at gunpoint after storming the area behind Modern Market and across from NKST Church in Kuan.
The victim’s kidnappers took him and took him to an unidentified location after he was just redeployed from Kwara State to the Benue State Command in February.

His kidnappers managed to get away despite a major search by community youngsters and vigilante organizations.
According to Agbo’s younger brother, concerns were raised when one of the neighbors insisted on the officer going back home that night.
He persisted in phoning, demanding that my brother return home or provide his location. He claimed that the attackers only targeted my brother when they were outside conversing.
Since then, the neighbor has been taken into police custody while an investigation is conducted.
His kidnappers have contacted the family and are requesting N20 million in ransom.
Attempts to verify the event with NIS personnel and CSP Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, were unsuccessful at the time this report was filed.
