Unusual Look: Amaechi Wears Turban to Buhari’s Funeral

Former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi was seen at the funeral of former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina state, sporting a turban.
After Buhari, the former president and head of state of Nigeria, died on July 13, there was a burial service in his hometown of Daura and nationwide sorrow.
Amaechi attended the previous president’s funeral wearing the customary headdress.
Buhari’s body, meanwhile, was transported by air on the presidential plane from London to Nigeria on Tuesday morning.
AMAECHI WEARING A TURBAN: WHY?
In honor of his leadership and accomplishments in the transportation industry, Amaechi was given the title of Dan Amanar of Daura on February 5, 2022, which translates to “trusted son of Daura.”

The turbaning was a cultural expression of thanks by the Daura Emirate, according to former deputy majority leader of the Senate Silas Zwingina, who denied that it was political in nature.
According to Zwingina, people who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the community are customarily honored in the Daura Emirate.
He stated, “It is completely out of politics and nobody should read any extraordinary meaning to it,” adding that Amaechi’s projects in Daura and throughout Nigeria are self-sufficient.
Prior to 2022, when Musa Saidu, the southern Arewa leader, recommended the minister to cease donning the turban during his political campaigns, Amaechi’s headwear had drawn criticism.
The turban is a powerful Islamic symbol, according to Saidu, who also advised against using it as a political accessory.
