Joke Silva Reveals Why Her Father Opposed Her Marriage to Olu Jacobs

According to veteran Nollywood actress Joke Silva, her father disapproved of her marriage to Olu Jacobs since they were 19 years apart in age.
The actor reportedly revealed this when he recently appeared on the Stephen Akintayo Leadership show.
Silva remembered how her sister had praised the movie star, telling her, “Joke, this is the man to take to daddy,” when she had first met Jacobs while looking for advice in her early acting career.
The movie star revealed that even though they had a tight bond, her mother was in favor of the union even though her father originally objected to it because of their age difference.
The 63-year-old movie star claimed that their bond grew stronger when Jacobs, who was already a well-known actor, urged her to seek rigorous drama training rather than a Theatre Arts degree from college.
According to Silva, she fell in love with her spouse and eventually married him. Jacobs suggested that she maintain her maiden name after marriage in order to save her reputation.
“We got married in 1984,” she remarked. It was 1985, and I was 24. I was 19 or 20 years his senior. I was in love with him, so I said yes. That is all there is to it. He was simply an extremely attractive individual.

In what I believe was 1984, I had returned home when one of my sisters was home. “This is the man to take to Daddy,” she said, pulling me aside when we first met. Toyin Olawoye was that person.
My mother said, “This is the person they know me with,” while my dad struggled with the idea that he was older. That kind of age difference also existed between her parents. Thus, it wasn’t a huge deal.
It was Jacobs who suggested that I keep my current name. Since he recognized the value of branding, he claimed that my brand had already begun to take shape before we ever met and that altering it might cause me issues.
“We continued to use Joke Silva as the brand name, and everyone in the brand knew that I was Mrs. Jacobs.”
