Why Northerners May Find It Hard to Trust Peter Obi’s Single-Term Promise – IPAC Chairman Sani

The Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi’s single-term proposal will be hard for northerners to believe, according to Yabagi Sani, chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).
According to reports, Peter Obi said he would willing to adhere to a four-year term if he wins the 2027 presidential election during an X Space on Sunday with his supporters.
However, Sani claimed that none of the candidates vying for president in 2027, including Peter Obi, are perfect in an interview on Tuesday’s episode of Channels Television’s The Morning Brief.

According to Sani, the northern area ought to produce the next president in accordance with the rotation of power paradigm. Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is running for reelection to finish his eight-year term.
The IPAC chair pointed out that Northerners will find it hard to accept Peter Obi since the balance of power shifts when politicians take office.

“Yes, Mr. Peter Obi can agree to say, ‘I am going to do one term,’ but the northerners will tell you that if Bola Tinubu wins the (second) election after his term has ended, it should come to the north,” he added.

We are human, though. Total power corrupts total power. No, Peter Obi is not a saint or a person from another planet. We’ve witnessed consecutive administrations attempting to amend the constitution to grant themselves a third term and other privileges.

Many individuals would find it hard to accept that Mr. Peter Obi would quit after just one term because of this. Given the sentimental nature of it, state control, and the strength of incumbency, how could he possibly succeed?
