Wike Accuses UniAbuja of Illegal Land Acquisition, Reclaims 7,000 Hectares

Of the 11,000 hectares of land that were formerly owned by the University of Abuja (Uniabuja), 7,000 hectares have been seized, according to announcements made by Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Wike said that the University had fenced off and annexed huge tracts of property in the Giri area without the required paperwork.
The FCT Minister stated that the university’s administration may eventually decide to sell the land while speaking on Monday at the opening of recently built access roads in the region.
“On their own, the University seized 11,000 hectares. That won’t happen, I said. Nothing, no document. “You see them fencing everywhere, and they would have gone to sell our land before you knew it,” Wike said.
The minister gave the Director of Lands and other pertinent Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) institutions instructions to give the university just 4,000 hectares; the remaining land would be used for other district development initiatives.

He went on to say that access roads would be built throughout the district to speed up the area’s infrastructure development and improve its suitability for human habitation.
“We have instructed the FCDA Executive Secretary and other pertinent authorities to begin working on the specifics of how we want to construct the roadways within the district after creating this access route. Therefore, rest confident that things might change in the upcoming year,” Wike stated.
Along with promising FCTA’s help for land provision to expedite the process, the Minister also alluded to plans to collaborate with the National Assembly to build more institutions in the district.
After the new access road is finished, the district’s EFCC Academy is anticipated to open for business right away.
“Now that they have access roads, they can move their equipment and develop this, so they will start the academy right away.” And you see that other people will also move in and create their own area when this happens,” he continued.
To entice investors, Wike pledged that the FCTA would supply basic utilities including electricity, water, and roads.
The majority of the issues we face here are caused by the fact that, occasionally, when land is allotted, there are no infrastructure or facilities and people are not encouraged. Therefore, we will do every effort to ensure that the provision of essential infrastructure is made,” he stated.
