WTO Director-General Okonjo-Iweala Endorses Abuja Africa Tourism Expo

The World Trade Organization (WTO) Director General, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, has endorsed the Africa Tourism and Creative Economy Expo (AFTCEE), which is set to take place in Abuja in November of this year.

Iweala, who is scheduled to attend the gathering, urged African countries to take advantage of the chance the event presents to use their creative and cultural resources for faster trade and economic development.

With the theme “Optimising Africa’s Comparative and Competitive Advantage for Accelerated Trade and Economic Growth,” she wrote in a personally signed letter to Mr. Chuks Akamadu, CEO of Afrocultour, the event’s organizers, that Africa is rich in cultural and tourism opportunities.
She emphasized the importance of using these advantages to further integrate into regional and global supply chains, noting that the WTO thinks services will be the main driver of trade in the future and that the creative economy and tourism would play a key role.
