‘You Came Into a Clean House And Ruined It’ – LP Chieftain Blames Peter Obi for Party Crisis

Faduri Oluwadare Joseph, a former presidential hopeful and Labour Party (LP) chieftain, has accused Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, of being responsible for the party’s crisis.
In a statement released on Thursday, he accused the former Anambra governor of throwing fingers at everyone but himself.
He referred to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), which he said Obi did not establish but abandoned after enjoying the party’s success.

The LP chieftain stated that Peter Obi was solely responsible for the party’s predicament.

He said that all of the party’s dubious agreements were done to advance Obi’s political ambitions.

The statement reads in part: “My attention has been attracted to several comments and videos in which Mr. Peter Obi continues to blame everyone but himself for the Labour Party’s developing problems. Obi appears to blame everyone but himself, from the present president to party leadership and even external factors.

“This is both disheartening and misleading. It’s ludicrous that a man who takes pride in competence, ability, and output – the Labour Party’s basic vision — is now a symbol of division, confusion, and underperformance.

“I recently viewed a video in which he accused the president of being responsible for the party’s problems. In another, he criticized the party’s leadership. The blame game is never-ending.

“Let us be clear: Mr. Peter Obi is the only individual who can be held accountable for the Labour Party’s downward slide.

“Obi joined the Labour Party in 2022, and the party was united. The house was in order. However, since his arrival, crisis has rocked the party from top to bottom. The centre could no longer hold.

“This split significantly contributed to our loss in the 2023 general election. A house divided against itself can’t stand.

“How can a man who claims to want to lead a complex country like Nigeria not even run a small political party?

“To all Obi supporters, I ask you to think critically: If Peter Obi is unable to resolve party-level crises, how will he handle inter-state conflicts, economic restructuring, security turmoil, and national reconciliation?”

“Let us not forget that Obi did not create APGA, the platform that provided him his first opportunity. He abandoned it when he should have expanded it into a national party, like Nnamdi Azikiwe did with the NCNC and Awolowo with the UPN. Compare that to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who transformed a provincial party into the national behemoth that currently rules Nigeria.

“Instead of strengthening APGA, Obi went to the PDP for another political meal, then to the Labour Party for a third — always looking for the easiest path, not the one that required true leadership and sacrifice.”

“After the 2023 elections, instead of returning to rebuild the Labour Party and unify disgruntled members, he distanced himself even more from Barr. Julius Abure, the very guy he employed throughout the campaign. Now that the party is over, he blames Abure for the disaster, forgetting that he was the one who strolled into a clean house and ruined it.

“Let me be clear: I am not a fan of Julius Abure, but the dubious dealings currently under investigation were undertaken to further Obi’s political ambitions. Leadership necessitates devotion, accountability, and the willingness to lead, particularly in tough circumstances.”
