APC Funding Wike to Destabilize PDP — Rivers PDP Chairman Alleges

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has been accused by Robinson Ewor, the acting chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, of conspiring with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine the PDP from inside.
In a live appearance on Arise News on Monday, April 21, 2025, Ewor asserted that Wike’s affiliations and actions make it abundantly evident that he is no longer a legitimate member of the PDP. He also claimed that the former governor is receiving funding from the APC to undermine the party nationally and in Rivers State in preparation for the 2027 elections.
Prior to the general elections in 2023, the party had no internal issues, according to Ewor, until Wike lost his bid for president and was unable to get the vice presidential ticket.
According to him, the crisis that eventually consumed the party was brought on by Wike’s personal dissatisfaction.
First and foremost, the PDP had no problems in the run-up to the general elections in 2023. The current FCT minister, Wike, aspired to be the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s president. Additionally, he submitted to the party’s primaries. However, the party ticket went to Atiku. Wike then desired the position of vice president. Wike initiated the PDP conflict since Atiku did not select him as the vice presidential candidate, according to Ewor.
He went on to say that Wike led the creation of the G5, which he says had one goal: to hurt the PDP’s electoral prospects.
“This was the beginning of the PDP crisis: Firstly, because Wike was not elected president. Second, he was not selected as the vice presidential candidate by Atiku Abubakar, Ewor said.
He initiated the PDP crisis and established the group that Nigerians refer to as the G5. What is meant by the G5? Take out PDP. Make sure the election was not won by Atiku Abubakar. The G5 was a symbol for that. The party has progressed past the general election of 2023.
Regarding Wike’s persistent meddling in PDP matters, Ewor questioned why he would advise a party that he is “busy destroying.”
“Wike has left the party.” How do you inform someone that you are no longer a member of a party? When you are busy harming others, how do you give them advice? How do you tell a party that you are leading the charge to overthrow it? Ewor asked.
“The PDP is not in crisis because of the crises we are seeing in the party today. This is due to the FCT minister’s goal of dismantling the party. His goal is to ruin the celebration. Additionally, he initiated it in River State.
“Sim Fubara didn’t do anything wrong.”
Ewor addressed the rift between Rivers Governor Sim Fubara and Wike, claiming the governor was being demonized for exercising his constitutional power.
“What is Sim Fubara’s crime? Sim Fubara did not break any laws. But in order to rig the 2027 election for the All Progressive Congress, he sought to control the party’s structure, the government’s structure, the state assembly, and every other known structure in the state, according to Ewor.
“River State is simply experiencing a crisis. Sim Fubara didn’t do anything wrong. Is it morally OK for Wike to inform Nigeria? This was the controversy that preceded Sim Fubara’s impeachment in October 2023.
According to Ewor, Wike insisted on controlling all political institutions in Rivers in order to help the APC win future elections. The state PDP leadership has subsequently rejected this goal.

“Sim Fubara didn’t do anything wrong. However, they did not agree that he could no longer carry out his aim of destroying the PDP if he correctly placed Sim Fubara’s seat until 2027. However, we have united as a party, particularly at the state level, to make sure that we organize our house,” he stated.
“He heard the party hostage at the state before.”
“The national says ‘don’t conduct congresses,’” Ewor added, highlighting a case of noncompliance with the party’s national mandate. After that, he (Wike) held congresses. Today, however, we have transcended that. He no longer controls the party at the state level now. As a result, he is powerless to act on behalf of the party at the state level.
Ewor also disclosed that the Board of Trustees (BoT), the National Working Committee (NWC), and PDP governors are working to reposition and recapture the party at the national level.
“The PDP governors’ forum, the NWC, and the party’s BOT are taking steps at the national level to make sure the party is repositioned,” he stated.
He made a forceful claim in closing, claiming that the APC is funding Wike’s activities in an effort to undermine the PDP from inside.
However, Nyesom Wike is bringing down the party today while sitting still. He is also being funded by the APC. The crisis is that. There isn’t a crisis in the PDP, but if you say there is one, get rid of Yosso Wike right now. There aren’t any crises in River State. If you remove him, there won’t be a crisis at the center or anywhere else in the state.
