Military Jet Bombs Katsina Village, Six Civilians Dead

A military airstrike that struck the Yauni village in the Zakka ward of the Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State has killed six people.
According to Daily Trust, a gunfight with bandits previously claimed the lives of three additional security personnel, including two police officers and a member of the state-owned Community Watch Corps (CWC).
The event, according to a local resident who talked to the aforementioned outlet on condition of anonymity, was caused by Saturday’s local government election.

It was said that the bandits intended to assault Zakka village voters.

When the security personnel learned of their scheme, they apparently took action to stop it from being carried out. This resulted in a gunfight with the robbers, in which a police officer and a CWC agent were killed, while a third officer was wounded and eventually passed away.
“The military fighter jet, which probably arrived to provide reinforcement, dropped a bomb at Yauni community, south of Zakka, following that incident, resulting in the deaths of six family members and the injuries of one woman,” the source claimed.

This is not the first instance of unintentional bombing killing Katsina citizens.

At least two people were murdered in July 2022 when a military fighter jet dropped a bomb in the same Safana Local Government Area’s Kunkunni village.
