Shettima Urges Unity in Kano Amid Rising Political Tensions

In Kano State, Kano State lawmakers have been asked by Vice President Kashim Shettima to maintain unity and prevent political disagreements from dividing them.

He made the request on Saturday night while paying the Emir’s palace a visit of condolence for the late Galadiman Kano Abbas Sunusi.

Speaking in front of Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Abbas, the chairman of the Kano APC, and prominent members of the Kwankwasiyya and Gandujiyya factions, Shettima underlined the value of unity in the politically significant state.
“A state like Kano, which is respected at all political levels, should not be split or disturbed by political disputes,” Shettima stated.

“We do not celebrate political divisions or finger-pointing among its people because Kano is a model for all of Nigeria,” he continued.

With the statement, “Kano is the heartbeat of the North; whatever affects Kano affects the North,” he emphasized the crucial role that Kano plays in Northern Nigeria.

To ensure clarity and a connection with the audience, Shettima said he decided to deliver his message in Hausa.

Shettima explained, “But even though I am not a native Hausa speaker, I have done my best to make sure you understand me well, which is why I am delivering this message in Hausa.”

In addition, he prayed for Galadiman Kano, who passed away, hoping that God would grant him paradise.

In the Shanono Local Government Area, where some people were killed and others were abducted in recent bandit assaults, the vice president sent his condolences to the families impacted.

“We are asking God to give us peace in Nigeria and throughout the country,” Shettima continued.
